Cybersecurity Solutions for Working Remotely

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic millions of employees from large and small-scale companies have started to work remotely. For many of them, who haven’t had any prior experience with working from home, it’s a new concept and they are not so scrupulous regarding applying security measures to their equipment and data. Specialists with CompTIA security+ certification urge their coworkers to be cautious and implement special rules to protect businesses from cybercrimes.

The major concern of cybersecurity specialists is that the transition to working from home happened very quickly, without considering security risks. Of course, it would be too much to expect from companies to provide CompTIA security+ training to all of their office employees. However, businesses should give some guidelines to their workers regarding using their personal computers, screening them for bugs and malware, saving and exchanging sensitive data, etc.

Cybercriminals are also smart and experienced with attacking office workers. In the remote work conditions, these attacks are becoming even easier to prepare and execute. One of the most common way of stealing data or even snatching money transfers is using social engineering skills. Cybercriminals make people believe that they are their manager or an executive, writing them an email and making a request. They can ask to share confidential data or to make a payment, or even redirect payroll deposits, etc.

These methods of cyberattacks are becoming more and more common. IT specialists with CompTIA security+ certification are trained to identify and reveal them. But regular remote workers can easily fall into this trap. A popular example is a “request from a boss” to purchase restaurant gift card to support workers of the company and then to share these cards numbers. In this case, you should always contact the management and verify by phone if the request is legitimate.

Unfortunately, not that many businesses manage to adequately protect themselves from hackers. It’s now more important for them than ever to hire specialists who have taken security+ course or to provide this training to their existing IT staff. Companies should make sure that they have professionals who can implement cybersecurity processes and support not tech-savvy employees working from home.

Business should realize that nowadays even those employees who haven’t traditionally done so, work from home and expose a lot of sensitive data and vulnerable network systems to cybersecurity threats. For example, financial, HR and administrative staff have access to the most crucial company information, and it might be a good idea to conduct a simplified online CompTIA security+ course specifically for such employees. IT specialist who’ve gone through complete security+ training should re-evaluate existing systems and establish security processes.
